How to Fill Out a PDF Form Without Adobe (Free)

Someone sends you a PDF form to fill in, a rental application, a permission slip, a tax form, an onboarding sheet. You open it, and there's nowhere to type. The old advice is "install Adobe Acrobat", but the free Adobe Reader often won't let you type into a form that has no interactive fields, and the paid version is a subscription you do not want just to fill in one page.

Fill a PDF form in four steps

1. Open the form. Go to the PDF Wiz editor and choose your PDF. It opens locally in your browser, nothing is uploaded.
2. Type your answers. Select the Add text tool, click on a field, and type. Repeat for each blank.
3. Handle checkboxes. For checkboxes, add a small text "X" or a checkmark on the right box.
4. Download. Export the completed form back to your computer, ready to send or print.

Why you don't need Adobe for this

Adobe Acrobat is powerful, but for simply typing text onto a form it is overkill, and the useful parts are behind a paid subscription. A browser-based editor places your text directly on the page as an overlay, which works whether or not the PDF has "real" form fields built in. • Save a blank copy. Keep the original unfilled form in case you need it again.

Is it private?

Yes. The form is filled in your browser, so a copy is not sent to a server just to add your answers. For forms with personal or financial information, that matters: your data stays on your machine.
